Southern Alps

Although I am an Australian I am very blessed to have lived part of may life in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. I grew up on the sandy beaches of Byron Bay, NSW, Australia, where there is literally no snow in sight for 1000 of miles. When we moved to the Southern Alps of New Zealand my dad said that we can learn to snowboard and that it is just like surfing a frozen wave. I was super bummed that there were no snowboards left in my size in the little town of Wanaka, where there are more sheep than people. However, after giving skiing a go I soon forgot about wanting a snowboard and loved surfing the frozen waves on my skis instead. New Zealand is a really unique little country, super down to earth, with hard working, honest people who love their pies and a good cuppa tea. I was so blessed to have spent half of my childhood in NZ and could never have imagined how much skiing blew up in our little area. After the twin tip made its way to NZ my mind was blown, skiing would literally become as cool as snowboarding. The creation of Snow Park and its massive jumps, rail lines and Superpipe also meant my fave freeskiing heroes would travel halfway across the world to come ski with us! Freeskiing had moved to town and my life was changed forever.
